Four maintenance tips for luxury vinyl flooring

Luxury vinyl flooring is low maintenance. It's also long-lasting, but, like anything, the better you take care of it, the longer it will last.

Here are some tips on keeping the floors looking and performing great for a long time.

Tip #1: Use adequate window coverings

Yes, Florida, we're talking to you! Sunlight is powerful; the material can fade when exposed directly to the sun over long periods.

Make sure the room has suitable window coverings, preferably motorized. This way, you can control it even when not home, lowering blinds and shades during peak sun to protect the tile-sized pieces (LVT flooring) or luxury vinyl plank flooring in Sarasota, FL.

Tip #2: Sweep regularly

It might seem excessive, but try to do it every day. This is because sand and dirt are sharp and can scratch.
Get into corners and under appliances and cabinets–wherever soil hides.

Tip #3: Don’t let it pit

This is another reason to sweep regularly; if the dirt hangs around, it will embed into the luxury vinyl flooring.

This is called pitting, which can be tough to eliminate. If it happens, drip some multi-purpose cleaner into the area.

Let it sit for about 10 minutes, and wipe. Repeat if needed on the luxury vinyl tile or plank.

Wet mop periodically

Use a damp, not dripping mop with a manufacturer-approved cleaner and warm water. Avoid harsh cleansers and waxy, shine-promoting ones that can damage the finish and dull the floors.

The best cleaner comes from your kitchen. Use one cup of vinegar (apple cider or white) to one gallon of water.

If desired, add a drop of baby oil, then mop again with only warm water.
