Technically, no–but that doesn't mean you shouldn't get one anyway. Waterproof flooring provides the highest moisture protection, but having a little added defense never hurts.
Underlayments also do a lot more than act as vapor barriers. That, in itself, may push you to want one.
What is an underlayment?
It's a thin material, usually felt, rubber, or foam, that is positioned between the surface and subfloors. An underlayment smooths out subfloor imperfections, insulates against noise, and provides a cushion-like feeling underfoot.
They can also block drafts and act as moisture barriers. The material can be cut into planks or tile-sized pieces.
The pieces are placed so tightly together with waterproof vinyl flooring that liquid can't seep between the seams. In the event they crack, though, seepage would be possible. A moisture barrier eliminates any concern about that happening.
A version of luxury vinyl flooring?
Yes, waterproof vinyl flooring is engineered to be thicker and more durable; the floors are also constructed with a technologically advanced core.
Style-wise, it has the same gorgeous wood, stone, and tile designs.
Our showroom has wood looks such as "Ensignium" by Engineered Floors and stone looks from Adura Flex Tile by Mannington.
WPC & SPC
Your waterproof floors in Sarasota, FL, will come with a wood plastic composite (WPC) and stone plastic composite (SPC) core. No matter how much water or long it's been on the floors, they'll never peel or ripple.
They both offer the same high level of moisture protection. WPC is more resilient, however, while SPC is solid and rigid.
The floors can be glued or installed via the floating floor or loose lay technique.
