The only difference is in the cut. While vinyl plank flooring is cut to mimic floorboards, LVT flooring is cut into square, tile-sized pieces. At the top is a transparent, strong, melamine wear layer that protects the floor from scratches and scuffs at the top. Over that is a clear urethane finish that adds extra shine and strength. 

True LVF measures 8-mm to 12-mm thickness, with the wear layer measuring 20-mils. LVF is also waterproof whether it's submerged or spilled on. A wipe dry, and it's OK to reuse.

LVF is also low maintenance, requiring only a daily sweeping and periodic mopping with a manufacturer-approved cleaner. Installation can be a floating floor where pieces click, mat, and hover over the subfloor without adhesives or nails.
