As a design option, the material can be cut into long planks to mimic hardwood floorboards called vinyl plank flooring. Alternatively, it is cut into square, tile-sized pieces used with or without grout.

This is thicker, has multiple layers, and has a rigid core. The top layer is a strong, clear, melamine coating (wear layer) that protects the floor from scratches, scuffs, and dents.
The wear layer also keeps spills from absorbing. So, whether you choose vinyl plank or luxury vinyl tile, you can be assured of a 100% waterproof material whether spilled on or submerged.
Low maintenance
All luxury vinyl flooring needs is regular sweeping and periodic mopping with a manufacturer-approved product. Please avoid waxy, shine-promoting products that damage the finish and dull the floor.
